Julian Assange Interviews Rafael Correa on 'The World Tomorrow' (E6)

Julian Assange Interviews Rafael Correa on 'The World Tomorrow' (E6) Video Clips. Duration : 25.73 Mins.

This week Julian Assange interviews President Rafael Correa of Ecuador. Correa is a left wing populist who has changed the face of Ecuador. But unlike his predecessors he holds a Ph.D. in economics. He's been called one of the most democratic leaders in Latin America's history - and is a champion of the poor. According to US embassy cables, Correa is the most popular President in Ecuador's democratic history. Correa discusses with Assange whether it's always the case of good media vs corrupt government, and examines his country's relationship with the United States. Discussion opens with the circumstances surrounding the attempted coup de tat in Ecuador in 2010, during which the president was taken hostage. From there this weeks interview moves on to the key relationships between media, money and the interests of the United States that are at play in Ecuador. Following the coup attempt, Correa embarked on a furious and controversial counter offensive on Ecuador's media. He attributes the media's influence over the events of 2010 to the vested interests of corporate power and its control of Ecuador's media, now explosively claiming corporate owners of the media "disguised as journalists, are trying to do politics, to destabilize our governments so that no change takes place in our region, for fear of losing the power they have always flaunted". - Russia Today TV (Russia) - May 22, 2012 Pre-Show: www.youtube.com Episode 1: www.youtube.com Episode 2: www.youtube.com Episode ...
